Jar candles are the most popular of the container candle designs I offer, the other being tin candle designs. Mine are soy jar candles, so every jar candle you find here is an eco-friendly one. I have both large jar candles and small, in your choice of a scented jar candle or unscented.

What I like best about jar candles is that there’s so much variety with this type of container candle, from round to square jar candle designs and every other shape in between. Soy jar candles are especially nice, as soy wax creates a deep, wide wax pool that releases fragrances well, making my scented jar candle designs (as well as tin candle designs) a big favorite, especially my large jar candles.

Of all my jar candle varieties, my personal favorites are my handpainted soy jar candles, in either my signature Drip or Splash container candle designs inspired by nature:

Tealights are the most functional of candles – not just providing accent light and fragrance, but also a heating source for tea, food and scented oils. My tealight candles are soy tealights, made from all-natural soy wax, so every tealight candle I make is also eco-friendly, even the scented tealights as they’re made from biodegradable scents.

If you’re using tealight candles as a heating source, unscented may be the best way to go. However, if you need soy tealights for decorative candleholders, scented tealights are a great way of setting a mood, be it festive or romantic.

For thousands of years, people have been using pure essential oils for curative purposes:

When rubbed on the body and added to a bath, Basil essential oil also cools the skin and lessens pain. Basil essential oil is extracted from all parts of the bushy basil plant, which is native to Africa and Asia.

Bergamot essential oil (not to be confused with the herb of the same name) relieves anxiety and nervous tension, improves mental clarity, lifts your mood, relaxes you and helps you sleep. As a natural disinfectant, Bergamot also purifies. Bergamot essential oil is extracted from the peel of the green and yellow fruit of the tree, an evergreen citrus native to Asia that grows to around 15 feet.

Cedarwood essential oil helps you meditate, relaxes you, helps you sleep, helps you dream and helps you breathe easier by opening the sinus passages. When rubbed on the body and when added to a bath, Cedarwood essential helps relieve chest congestion and lessens pain. Cedarwood essential oil is extracted from the sawdust and wood chips of the red cedar tree, which is native to North America and grows up to 100 feet.

Citronella essential oil repels insects, lifts your mood and improves mental clarity. Citronella essential oil is extracted from the entire Citronella plant, an aromatic tall grass that is native to Asia.

Clary sage essential oil calms you, helps you sleep, lifts your mood and improves digestion. It also serves as an aphrodisiac, increases sexual strength and helps to regulate the female reproductive system. Clary Sage essential oil is extracted from the pink, white or blue flowers of the plant, which is native to Europe and grows about 3 feet high.

Eucalyptus essential oil improves mental clarity, energizes you, stimulates the nervous system, improves circulation and helps you breathe easier by opening up the sinus passages. When rubbed on the body and added to a bath, Eucalyptus essential oil cools the skin and relieves pain, aches and sore muscles. As a natural disinfectant, Eucalyptus essential oil also purifies. Regarded as a cure-all during the 19th century, eucalyptus essential oil is extracted from the Eucalyptus tree, which is native to Australia and grows to a height of over 300 feet.

Frankincense essential oil helps you meditate, lifts your mood, relaxes you, helps you sleep and helps you breathe by opening sinus passages. When rubbed on the body or added to a bath, Frankincense essential oil also soothes and heals inflamed skin, bruises and burns. Frankincense essential oil is extracted from the bark of the frankincense tree which is native to the Mediterranean and grows up to 20 feet tall.

Juniper berry essential oil improves mental clarity, improves your memory, lifts your mood and relaxes you. When rubbed on the body and added to a bath, Juniper Berry essential oil also lessens pain. As a natural disinfectant, Juniper Berry essential oil also purifies. Juniper Berry essential oil is extracted from the berries of the plant, an evergreen bush that can live to be 2000 years old.

Lavender essential oil relaxes you, helps you sleep better, lifts your mood and balances mood swings. As a natural disinfectant, burning Lavender essential oil also helps purify the air and your skin. Lavender essential oil is extracted from the lilac-colored flowers of the plant. Native to the Mediterranean, the Lavender plant is an evergreen that grows to approximately 3 feet high.

Patchouli essential oil serves as an aphrodisiac, lifts your mood, stimulates your nerves and prevents sleep. When rubbed on the body and when added to a bath, Patchouli essential oil heals the skin. Patchouli essential oil is extracted from the leaves of the plant, which is native to Asia and has light purple or lavender flowers.

Peppermint essential oil increases physical strength and endurance, improves mental clarity, improves concentration, stimulates the brain and the metabolism, lifts your mood, helps you breathe better by opening sinus passages and improves digestion. It also serves as an aphrodisiac. When rubbed on the body and added to a bath, Peppermint essential oil also cools and relieves itchy skin, and relieves pain and inflammation. My Daily Inspiration in Candle Making

I really like to stay in a smooth sailing place of love and light when I make my soy candles. People rely on candles for relaxation and warmth, and I want my candle making to reflect those same clear emotions. So that’s where I start as a candle maker – with peace of mind. Some of my jar soy candles get dripped in color. In fact, they’re my favorite of all my custom candles, thus the name “Dripping In Color.” At times I paint a soy candle and I look at it and think, “I want to keep that for me,” but then I realize that’s just the craft of candle making at work – if I as the candle maker love my soy candles, the person I made it for is going to love it too. My colors are creative imagery put on glass – candle making that’s unique and different. I don’t just want to make a candle. I want to make an impression.

When rubbed on the body and added to a bath, Basil essential oil also cools the skin and lessens pain. Basil essential oil is extracted from all parts of the bushy basil plant, which is native to Africa and Asia.

Bergamot essential oil (not to be confused with the herb of the same name) relieves anxiety and nervous tension, improves mental clarity, lifts your mood, relaxes you and helps you sleep. As a natural disinfectant, Bergamot also purifies. Bergamot essential oil is extracted from the peel of the green and yellow fruit of the tree, an evergreen citrus native to Asia that grows to around 15 feet.

Cedarwood essential oil helps you meditate, relaxes you, helps you sleep, helps you dream and helps you breathe easier by opening the sinus passages. When rubbed on the body and when added to a bath, Cedarwood essential helps relieve chest congestion and lessens pain. Cedarwood essential oil is extracted from the sawdust and wood chips of the red cedar tree, which is native to North America and grows up to 100 feet.

Citronella essential oil repels insects, lifts your mood and improves mental clarity. Citronella essential oil is extracted from the entire Citronella plant, an aromatic tall grass that is native to Asia.

Clary sage essential oil calms you, helps you sleep, lifts your mood and improves digestion. It also serves as an aphrodisiac, increases sexual strength and helps to regulate the female reproductive system. Clary Sage essential oil is extracted from the pink, white or blue flowers of the plant, which is native to Europe and grows about 3 feet high.

Eucalyptus essential oil improves mental clarity, energizes you, stimulates the nervous system, improves circulation and helps you breathe easier by opening up the sinus passages. When rubbed on the body and added to a bath, Eucalyptus essential oil cools the skin and relieves pain, aches and sore muscles. As a natural disinfectant, Eucalyptus essential oil also purifies. Regarded as a cure-all during the 19th century, eucalyptus essential oil is extracted from the Eucalyptus tree, which is native to Australia and grows to a height of over 300 feet.

Patchouli essential oil is extracted from the leaves of the plant, which is native to Asia and has light purple or lavender flowers.

Candle history dates back 5,000 years when the history of candles began with the ancient Egyptians. Since then, the history and products of candle making have taken many turns, from beeswax candles, to paraffin wax candles, to soy wax candles. A brief history of candle making is outlined below.

The History of Candles

Candle history starts with the ancient Egyptians who rolled papyrus and dipped it in tallow (animal fat) to create the first candles.

Though some say the Egyptians’ candles had wicks, other sources on candle history say the Romans were the first to create the wicked candle.

In the Middle Ages, the history of candle making took a turn when beeswax was introduced in Europe, a popular alternative to tallow as it burned cleaner. Unfortunately, only the wealthiest could afford beeswax candles.

In the 13th century of candle history, candle makers – or “chandlers” – went home-to-home making candles for their clients.

Colonial American women changed the history and products of candle making when they introduced bayberry candles, boiling bayberries to create a sweet-smelling wax.

In the late 1700s, there was a shift in the history of candles when the growing whaling industry led to spermaceti candles, made from whale oil.

Around 1850, paraffin wax hit the candle history scene, made from by-products of petroleum oil.

The history of candles changed once again in the early 1990s when soy wax candles were introduced. Though paraffin wax and beeswax candles still have a place in the candle history of the twenty-first century, soy wax candles are the most affordable natural wax candle on the market today.

Soybean Plant

Soy products originated in China where they have been growing and cultivating soybeans from the soybean plant for thousands of years. Soy products include a wide range of foods and everyday household items, including soy candles made from soy wax.

Introduced to the United States in the 1800s, the soybean plant is now one of the country’s leading crops. In fact, the U.S. now produces more than half of the world’s supply of soy, the majority of which is used as feed in the livestock industry. The soybean plant has either white or purple flowers and grows 2 to 5 feet tall before it reaches maturity, usually within 100 to 150 days.

There is much conflicting information regarding the health benefits of soy products consumed as food. For instance, some say soy consumed as food can help lower cholesterol, and prevent heart disease and certain types of cancer. On the other hand, some say soy consumed as food can actually contribute to cancer and other medical conditions.

However, there is no doubt that soy candles made from soy wax are a healthier alternative to paraffin, which represents the majority of candles in the mainstream marketplace today.

Soy candles have been my specialty since 2000 when I realized how eco-friendly they are for jar candles, votive candles, pillar candles, tealights, and custom candles included. Plus, the aroma from the candle scents – including aromatherapy candles – escapes easier from a soy wax candle. Soy candles have a great scent throw hot or cold.

Every soy candle I make is handpoured fresh to order with 100% soy wax, cotton wick soy dipped, mostly essential oil but all our other candle scents are made with an all phthalate free scent. My handpainted soy candles are available in a 16 ounce jar candle with a lid, including custom candles in your choice of colors - Rainbow Candles, Sunset Drip, and Waterfall candle designs. The drips on the outside of the jar is a way to create a kaleidoscope view on the space it surrounds, but mostly to create color without adding chemicals to the soy wax. (That is why we don't carry candles that are dyed. Eventually we will.) I will gladly collaborate on candle scents and aromatherapy candles too, from pillar candles to tealights. Hi I’m Kel, a soy candle maker who likes to think of herself as an “eco-artist and candle revolutionist.”

Soy Candle Making is so fun for me. Candles filled with love, light, pride, pure intention and with truthful integrity, making every single soy candle handpoured fresh to order. From the original essential oils or phthalate free candle scent combinations to the handpainted jar candle designs – these candle making crafts are visions of mine which have greatly reflected with ripples.

How I Got Started Candle Making

I’ve always loved candles and around 1998 I started candle making myself, just as a hobby. Not interested in that lingering smell of heavy paraffin candle wax, I wanted to give up my hobby as a candle maker because I felt it was bad for me, my family and the environment. So I researched soy wax candles and tested it for about a year in different jars and such. It took me awhile to learn and I still do everyday, but immediately I noticed the difference between a paraffin candle and a soy wax candle. It is absolutely amazing!

My Daily Inspiration in Candle Making

I really like to stay in a smooth sailing place of love and light when I make my soy candles. People rely on candles for relaxation and warmth, and I want my candle making to reflect those same clear emotions. So that’s where I start as a candle maker – with peace of mind.

Some of my jar soy candles get dripped in color. In fact, they’re my favorite of all my custom candles, thus the name “Dripping In Color.” At times I paint a soy candle and I look at it and think, “I want to keep that for me,” but then I realize that’s just the craft of candle making at work – if I as the candle maker love my soy candles, the person I made it for is going to love it too. My colors are creative imagery put on glass – candle making that’s unique and different. I don’t just want to make a candle. I want to make an impression.

My original candle scent blends are a big part of Dripping In Color soy candles as well. Over the years as a candle maker – pouring different scents – I had many different single scents lingering about, and I would pull them together and make a scented candle. What it reminded me of is what I named it, putting together original scents you won’t find anywhere else, like Rainbow, Sunset and Waterfalls. Essentials oils are mostly what my blends are infused with for all my candle scents and totally phthalate free fragrance blends.

Why I Love My Work as a Candle Maker

What’s most rewarding to me about making soy candles is the gratitude for my ability to be a soy candle maker – providing a healthier alternative for people and the environment and being able to introduce soy candles to so many folks. Artistically as a candle maker, it’s so satisfying creating unique soy candles with original candle scent blends, knowing that I’ve been the one to do that successfully and at the end of the day be proud of it.

I adore the people that have stepped into Dripping In Color and given my soy candles a burn. I have had so many kind comments about my soy candles. One that stands out for me, and I get it from A LOT of people, is that they feel the good energy coming from their soy candle when it’s lit. That’s what I want everyone to feel – comfortable and happy with what they bought. Candles are often an important part of someone’s daily routine, and helping people make the most of those moments is important to me.

Yep. That about sums up my candle making journey. I find my job as a candle maker absolutely delicious ad rewarding daily!
